Welcome to AFOBMCIS 2023
AFOB-MC International Symposium (AFOBMCIS) is one of the annual events of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology Malaysia Chapter (AFOB-MC). This year, AFOBMCIS 2023 will be mainly organised by AFOB-MC and Universiti Malaya (UM), co-organised by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Sarawak and Cawangan Puncak Alam, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Khalifa University (KU), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL MICET) and Flextronics Shah Alam Sdn Bhd.
The 5th AFOBMCIS 2023 that will be held virtually aims to provide a platform for researchers, scientists, academicians, scholars, and industries to share knowledge and expertise in the research and development of biotechnology. This activity will help the involvement and collaboration among participants (local and international) to keep in touch in developing biotechnology for the future. This symposium is hoped to provide the opportunity for participants to showcase their research outcomes besides sharing their ideas, opinions and knowledge of the current issues related to biotechnology.
The theme of AFOBMCIS 2023 is “From Biotechnology to Circular Bioeconomy”. Biotechnology has played a major role in shaping our future, which covers a wide range of areas. Therefore, 12 technical sessions will be covered under AFOBMCIS 2023, as follows:

- Bioindustry Promotions, Bioeducation and Bioeconomy
The symposium will invite prestigious speakers in the biotechnology field worldwide to share their knowledge and expertise and allow networking among the participants. Besides, a special session for young researchers will also be organised with a special award to be presented. As usual, the best poster presentation will also be awarded to the poster presenter.
As a record, AFOB-MC had successfully organised the AFOB Regional Symposium 2014 (ARS2014) at Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Asian Congress on Biotechnology 2015 (ACB2015) at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, AFOBMCIS 2018 at Pullman Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak, AFOBMCIS 2019 at The Everly Hotel, Putrajaya, AFOBMCIS 2021, virtually, and AFOBMCIS 2022 at Pulau Langkawi, Kedah.
Chaired by Dr. Wan Abd Qadr Imad Wan Mohtar from UM and co-chaired by Dr. Mohd. Helmi Sani from UTM, the AFOBMCIS 2023 organising committee members hope this symposium will be a successful event with the enthusiastic participation of local and worldwide biotechnologists for the realization of biotechnology innovations for a sustainable future.
